Hello Hello Desi Brides!
I’m in the thick of my wedding planning now and there is only 5 months to go till the wedding – eeks!
I hope you are all having a well deserved break and enjoying every moment of it!
I know a lot of us get caught up in the commotion of the wedding planning and lines like “Screw it, I only get married once – so lets do it” come out, but sometimes you need to have a word with yourself and not get carried away and try and invest in your wedding wisely. I understand its your dream day but lets face it its only day only and there are things you can stinge on and things you can spend on! Of course the below is just my thoughts and opinions and you may think differently, if you do let’s hear it in the comments!
CATERING – SPEND. Catering is probably the most important thing at a Asian wedding so don’t stinge. Get a good reputable caterer and make sure you do a food tasting if not multiple. If you absolutely need to cut costs then opt for less starters and canapés but don’t stinge on the quality of the food or service.
CAKE – STINGE – Anyone that knows me knows I’m crazy about cakes and cupcakes BUT I couldn’t justify spending £2k on a dummy polystyrene cake which my guests weren’t even probably going to eat (Asian traits) so I opted for a non luxury supplier. It still will be amazing but without the hefty price tag 🙂
DJ – SPEND – You can spend £100k on the wedding but if you don’t have the right DJ then there is literally no point as the DJ makes or breaks the wedding. So make sure you have a DJ which creates lots of ronak and get’s the party started! I know the grooms side always book this but make sure you find out who they are booking!
CHAMPAGNE & ALCOHOL – STINGE – OK OK, I’m not telling you to buy Asda smart price Vodka but there are ways you can cut costs on the alcohol. You could have Prosecco at the drinks reception instead of Moet and to save costs. Or you could have bar service only and not pile on the alcohol at the tables so your guests have to get their drinks from the bar. This way you’ll make sure there isn’t any wastage because essentially you could end up with lots of half empty bottles which is just dollar down the drain.
DECOR – SPEND – Once again this is completely subjective but the Decor for me makes or breaks a wedding. I literally can’t stinge on decor but there are of course cheaper options available and the use of lighting is also very important if you are going with minimal decor. Explore your options and negotiate (or get me to do it for you).
PRE WED EVENTS – STINGE – This again is a tough cookie. I want awesome stuff across all of my pre wed events but any savings made can potentially go on the wedding day itself so you could cut back on the pre wed events and spend the money on the wedding day. The choice is yours!
MAKEUP & HAIR – SPEND – Never never never ever stinge on makeup and hair. This is your Big day and you need to look and feel amazing so don’t cut corners. Go for multiple trials and make sure you are 110% confident with your look. Don’t ever book without a trial please please please!
DANCE FLOOR – STINGE I have lots of lovely brides email me about personalised dance floors and they feel they are quite expensive. Yes the personalised ones are as they are custom made for couples. At the end of the day I don’t feel like it’s a necessity and if you don’t have a awesome dance floor it won’t make or break your wedding like the food or decor so I feel that this is an area you can stinge on.
PHOTOGRAPHY – SPEND – At first glance those extortionate photography quotes are enough to make you run a mile but trust me invest in a good photographer and don’t just give in if you can’t find a good one that matches your budget. There are literally hundreds of very good Asian wedding photographers out there who will give you amazing images at good value. Your photographs will all you have left after the wedding so make sure you pick a good photographer that beautifully captures your dream day.
WEDDING COORDINATOR – SPEND – I know what you are probably thinking, why the hell would I want a wedding coordinator or even what is a coordinator, let me tell you Desi Bride. A Asian wedding coordinator is someone who will run and manage your dream day for you without stressing you or your family out, no wonder it’s become one of my most popular packages! I take over 30 days prior to your wedding and you will handover everything to me which leaves you stress free in the weeks leading up to your wedding no to mention the wedding day. This can be your most important and valuable investment for your big day. Drop me an email on email@example.com for more information – I would love to help you on your dream day!
One final note from me. I always love to hear from my lovely Desi Brides so please do shoot me an email if there is anything wedding related bugging you at night.
