Do I need a Asian wedding coordinator?
In one word, YES.
Why? Well let me tell you…
The average wedding Asian wedding has 250 hours of planning time ploughed into it. Yes you heard that right a massive 250 HOURS! If not more…
For most of us Asian professional women kicking ass in our full time high flying careers and trying to juggle our manic lifestyles between our beaut family and fabulous friends it’s a big ask. Earlier this year I would rather have been sipping mojitos on a Friday night in London then chasing suppliers or trying to get my photography quote reduced one last time. Life really sucked at those times and it was pure chaos and not to mention the stress!
I know what you’re thinking – but Sharn I want to have full planning control over my dreamy big day. I second that and you still can but with a lot less stress.
So it goes like this. You can still do all the fun bits like looking at pretty Asiana magazines and attend those oh so lovely wedding shows but you just get a planner to do the real complex wedding planning bits for you and take care of all the “wedmin”. Yes that’s right, there is a lot of “wedmin” What’s that I hear you ask? All the snorey boring bits like triple checking contracts, reading the small print, deciding on how many waiters you need on the day and double/triple/quadruple checking you have booked EVERYTHING. There is so much detail involved and I was constantly paranoid that I had missed something, and I hate to break it to you but it does happen! Wedding planning isn’t about booking all the major suppliers, there is so much small nitty gritty detail involved. Like how many starters to have, and many mocktails you want at the drinks reception, what size your dancefloor should be…Oh My God the list goes on…and on…and on…
I know another thing you’re thinking. But Sharn isn’t wedding planning for the uber rich who have wedding costs of £50K and above – UH NO. A lot of wedding planners work with brides who sometimes only have £30K budget or below to spend on their big day. Some wedding planners are definitely not for the rich and famous they are for brides like us, who want more!
Now you’re probably thinking what’s the cost? Well of course it varies on which wedding planner you get but it normally ranges from £1800 plus and even sometimes less. But it so worth the investment because you have someone working alongside you ALL of the time and to guide you and advise you on EVERYTHING wedding related. I think the best part is that you know your family won’t be stressed on the day or the lead up to it, because the planner takes care of it all!
And if you’re not into the whole wedding planning shizzle and the above just doesn’t cut it for you, then you definitely I mean DEFINITELY need an on the day co-ordinator. So what’s that I hear you ask? It’s a dream come true. You get a team of 2-3 people in to co-ordinate your whole day for you. So this means they will be there from the crack of dawn and they will be the last people to leave on your big day. It means that your big day will run smoothly from start to finish. There wont be any embarrassing mishaps like someone forgetting to put the knife on the cake table and your stood their like a lemon whilst your bhua ji runs around frantically trying to find one. Or when all of the booze goes missing at the end of your wedding and you’re thinking who the hell knicked the booze. The Asian wedding co-ordinators will be taking care of all that and more. They will make sure your day is running smoothly and everything is on time. The worst thing is when you spend lots of money on your big day and on the day it doesn’t all come together, gutting hey? And I have seen this happen time and time again. So you need a Asian wedding co-ordinator, because at the end of the day the wedding day needs to run smoothly and a Asian wedding coordinator is the best investment you can make. A lot of people will argue that that’s what the venue is there to do. NAH, all the venue will do is well, everything to do with the venue. They wont be there in the morning at the Gurdwara making sure that your breakfast is running smoothly and everyone is getting their garam garam chai and samosa’s or nor will they be there if your cake doesn’t arrive on time or making sure all your guests are fed properly. The co-ordinator will take care of everything so you and your family can actually relax on your big day.
One thing I regret not having at my engagement was a co-ordinator because all of the stress was on me and the venue kept asking me questions in the evening and it was only 120 guests!
Invest wisely in your big day and either get a planner, partial planner or definitely a wedding co-ordinator service, it will save you time, money and stress. If your really bad at negotiating and find it embarrassing (don’t be embarrassed Desi Bride) then the planner can negotiate on your behalf and save you some serious cash – YAY!
