I’m humming along to my fave song at the moment – “Everything’s so beautiful” by Honey Singh & Nesdi Jones, what a beaut (excuse the pun)
So as you know my engagement was little over 10 days ago and I have now just about recovered. It was a big affair, and it had all the ingredients of a Punjabi Sikh engagement, the yummy food, bright bling bling outfits and not forgetting the Bhangra – balle balle.
Today I wanted to talk about the little details. Yes we had a gorgeous country hotel as the venue which was set in the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds and the decor was awesome, however I do think it was the little details that made all the difference and it was a topic of conversation with a lot of our guests – they loved it too so I was pleased!
So literally 2 weeks before the engagement I decided I wanted lots of little personal things at the engagement. Why? Because I know that the difference is always in the detail and the details are what set apart your wedding or engagement. The little details add lots of personality to the event and they are also a representation of you. So I’ll walk you through what I had.
I chose a purple theme after selecting a beautiful jewel embellished dress that had hues of purple at the base of the dress. We had stunning beautiful crystal tree centrepieces with purple roses that were placed on a mirror plate surrounded by purple rose petals. For each table we had personalized chocolates and cards thanking everyone that had joined our special celebration. We also had tasty, purple personalized cupcakes and dazzling purple bead cookies. It all came together perfectly and looked oh so beautiful!
We also used pink up lighting in the room to give the room some ambiance and the right atmosphere and it worked a treat and completely transformed the room. I cannot stress how important lighting is so make sure you think of lighting options for your big day.
The dessert table, how could I forget that. I have a real sweet tooth and I’m cake obsessed so a dessert table was a must! I styled it with lots of pretty things such a birdcage from the lovely Kerry from Unique Wedding Hire in Swindon and there was a lace purple overlay added along with a gorgeous cupcake stand. We also added beautiful purple petals for that extra special touch.
Cupcakes, yes my fave dessert and I couldn’t have an engagement without cupcakes! I asked the lovely Kim who is local to me to bake me a selection. Again they had the theme of the engagement and I made sure they tied in and matched with the purple theme. If you want to opt for cupcakes then try and find a local baker as this will normally be a more cost effective way for you. Don’t forget to specify the design and flavours .
Second up the cookies. Again a last minute thing but OMG they were gorg! Again I opted for the purple and silver theme and Charmaine from that’s the cherry on top did a fantastic job of designing them, they were simply beautiful.
I also had thank you cards along with personalised chocolates and silver hearts. Now I really do think these were the show stoppers. They were very personal and added that pop of colour and personality to the tables. Gone are the days of simple cutlery and simple table settings. There is a big emphasis on table settings so it’s important to get this right to set the right tone for your day. The thank you cards were made by my lovely bridesmaid Charlotte.
I knew I wanted personalised chocolates and I enquired locally and the cost was ridiculous. After some researching (yes I am research queen) I discovered a supplier which was very cost effective and did a fantastic job creating them and also sent me a proof over email so I could see what the design looked like. The chocolates were yummy too which is always a bonus!
I got silver heart chocolates as well and I used them all around the venue, on the dessert table, the main tables and on the plates to accompany the thank you cards, we received lots of compliments so I was very pleased!
So what would be my piece of advice to brides and grooms?
Well one thing I really regret is not hiring a coordinator for the event. I’m a control freak and I found it hard to let go of all the little things. It would have been great to have someone take the stress off me on the day of the event. Many of the suppliers were asking me questions, which could’ve been diverted to a coordinator. I advise brides-to-be to invest in a coordinator for your big day and/or engagement. It’s the only real way to remain stress free on your big day. Aside from the stress, everything ran on time and went smoothly. I wish I could do it all again!
Here are some more pictures from the engagement 🙂
