I recently came across Ananya cards and loved their beautiful collection of cards. I think that the cards that are now printed in India have lost their originality and brides to be are looking for something unique and beautiful which sets the tone of their wedding.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Vaishali from Ananya cards to tell us a little bit more about her lovely collection.
Tell us a little bit about Ananya Cards
Ananya, means ‘without equal’ or ‘unparalleled’ in Sanskrit, and it symbolises my vision of creating luxury cards and stationery that is distinct, unique and a fusion of Asian and British styles that appeal to the modern British taste. We love to blend these styles for Asian and multicultural weddings – the use of bold and vibrant colours makes them look opulent and sophisticated at the same time.
We are inspired by themes and patterns from diverse cultures rich in heritage. We use the finest materials, hand embellishments and specialist techniques, and we interpret the designs with a new, modern twist.
What kind of services do you offer brides and grooms?
Every bride wants her wedding day and wedding invitation to be unique. That’s exactly what we aim to do with our bespoke service. From the minute your guests receive their save the date or wedding invitation, they will get a sense of the mood and tone of your special day.
We learn as much as we can about the couple and incorporate those elements that are important to them, that reflect their unique style and personality, into the invitation. Whether it is a swatch of fabric or a motif that has a particular significance, a floral or exotic design, monogram or a photograph, we create a theme around it to weave into the stationery.
Other wedding stationery we offer includes save the date cards, a welcome pack, place cards, order of service, menu, thank you cards, seating plan, table numbers, stickers/envelope seals just to name a few.
For couples who want our boutique service, our elegant, contemporary and varied collection of pre-designed stationery consists of a range of designs, colours and styles on high quality cardstock to suit every taste.
You have won quite a few awards recently, tell us a little bit more about this…
Yes, we have been very fortunate indeed. It’s thrilling to be featured in magazines such as Brides, Wedding, Asian Bride, Cosmopolitan Bride, Wedding Ideas and several others over the years. We have also received wonderful testimonials from magazines and brides alike.
The award we are most proud of is ‘Wedding Industry Experts 2012 Awards for Best Invitations in the UK’ as well as ‘Best Invitations Worldwide’. This is where the public voted for the company they thought was the best in the industry. It meant the world to us and gave us such a boost! It made all the hard work that goes into creating a successful business totally worthwhile.
Tell us a little bit more about the monogram collection
How does a couple make their wedding a little bit different from others, to be talked about long after it is over? Well, in order to achieve this, a couple needs to let their individuality and identity shine forth. And a monogram is a great and affordable way to do just this! Monograms have become increasingly popular; they personalise and give that extra touch of individuality and class to wedding stationery that is completely unique to the couple.
For Asian and multicultural weddings, we have designed monograms in many imaginative ways, such as incorporating special touches in keeping with the couple’s cultural heritage. We have included a monogram in the ceremony booklet, and put it in strategic places in the mandap, as well as the invitation itself, of course. Talk about making an impression!
A lot of brides get their cards custom made in India, what are your thoughts on this?
I think one of the biggest motives for getting cards made in India is to save on the cost. I understand and appreciate this. After all, a wedding is a costly affair, and one is always looking for ways to cut down the cost – and cards made in India would seem like a natural choice for Asian brides. The feedback I have received from couples is that they have often found a lack of quality that is consistent and reliable. Other problems they have encountered are poor communication with the company, cards not delivered on time and lack of attention to detail. In fact, I just designed wedding cards for a client who had ordered cards in India, but was so disappointed with the quality when she actually received them, that she threw them away and asked me to design new ones for her. So in the end, her wedding stationery ended up costing her a lot more!
What advice would you give to brides and grooms in finding their perfect wedding invite?
Try not to compromise on the quality of the stationery. Remember that your wedding stationery sets the tone for your wedding – it speaks volumes about you as a couple and gives your guests the first glimpse of the wedding. The cost of stationery is a much smaller percentage of the overall budget compared to the cost of the venue, outfits for the various celebrations, flowers, decorations, etc. Quality should never be compromised; go for as high quality as your budget allows.
What is the current trend in the wedding card market?
The East meets West trend continues to be popular with top fashion and beauty houses. Couples are not shying away from choosing strong, dramatic gem-stone colours that are rich and exotic, and tones that spell opulence. Modern interpretation of traditional images and symbols can skilfully harmonise the East and West. Studded with crystal embellishments, they are eye catching and spectacular!
Gold has always been in fashion, but silver is beginning to steal the show! Combined with soft colours and embellished with crystals for added effect, invitations look positively celestial! Rose gold, too continues to find favour for wedding stationery, as it has done with wedding jewellery.
