Hello there Desi Brides!
I hope you all having a fabulous week!
As you know I love discovering new and exciting suppliers in the Asian wedding industry that have something different to offer.
So today I wanted to introduce to you the lovely Grapefruit Balloons founded by Rina Patel. I know what you’re probably thinking balloons, really Sharn? But stay with me.
I’m not talking about the balloons we all regularly saw plonked on tables at weddings in the 1990’s, we’ve come a long way from that (thank god), but I am talking about luxury balloons that have become ever so popular over the past few years. I actually wanted these at my maiyan event but I couldn’t find any and I wish I had known about Grapefruit Balloons at the time as I think they work really well for pre wed events or vintage themed events.
The Jaan/baraat arrival balloons concept is my favourite which Rina talks about below – how unique!
So without further, let’s get into all things balloons.
Tell us a bit about GrapeFruit Balloons and when you started and why:
The concept, ‘Grapefruit Balloons’ was really born out of a desire to create. I enjoyed creating and I especially enjoyed how balloons always caught people’s eyes and made them smile. Not only children, but adults alike. When people saw balloons, there was an almost instant emotional connection and they knew that something special is happening.
I had attended several courses, run by the balloon industry, some years back to learn about the fundamentals…. I never looked back since.
We began life providing helium & air filled balloons for almost all types of events. Everything from birthdays, weddings to staged events and much much more, we had designs for almost everything.
As our clients appetite for alternative balloon décor increased so did our designs.
In fact, most of our original designs did not require any helium at all but instead used frames and air filled balloons.
As we introduced our new feather filled collection, demand for this range increased. The colourful feathers and intricately cut tails generated interest far and wide.
So as we evolved, our brief has always been simple: “Create balloons that will touch hearts.”
What kind of balloons do you offer and for which occasions?
Our new feather filled collection is our primary range of balloons. The balloons are 24” in diameter and are attached to intricately cut, hand crafted tails and anchored to a globe. They are filled with rich coloured feathers and we also offer the option to have them personalised too.
The balloons are incredibly versatile and can be used anywhere from Weddings to Mehndi nights, Baby Showers and Christenings and even those celebratory festivals like Diwali.
Because our balloons are not made from traditional latex, they have extended float times. This means that the balloons can float from anywhere between 12 days to 3 weeks [and more]. To make it easier on our clients our balloons are dispatched to them by post, fully inflated and ready to use straight out of the box.
There has been definitely been a rise in recent years of the “sophisticated balloon” why do you think that is?
People have always enjoyed using balloons as part of their decor, as i mention above, they make people smile. There is something about them that people connect with. However, as the wedding industry has evolved and the decor become more opulent, so has the rise in appetite for ‘sophisticated balloons’. The manufactures have done well to introduce beautiful and vibrant balloons to the market and are constantly creating new concepts.
To keep up with evolving trends, we will be launching our new flower collection very soon. Balloons adorned with hand crafted flowers. They combine two creative worlds: Balloons and Flowers.
Do you offer any other services at all?
Yes, we are currently introducing a new service: Bulk balloons for the Jaan arrivals. It is a new concept which involves the Jaan/baraat parties arriving with clusters of balloons. A really fun way to greet the bride and her family and if they do not hear the dhol players first, they will certainly see the sea of balloons in the distance.
Which areas do you serve?
With our feather filled collection, we are able to serve the whole of the UK as our balloons are sent by post.
However as our business expands, we are getting bespoke requests from all parts, so we are getting used to traveling a bit further 🙂
What top 4 tips would you give to a Desi Bride planning her wedding
Number 1 – Make sure you have fun! Enjoy your wedding day. There is nothing more radiant than a bride who is beaming. A bride’s smile and laughter is infectious and transcends all that are there celebrating the big day with her.
Number 2 – I talk about smiles and laughter, However, I would say my number two tip would be to leave time for the Vidai. The Vidai, is undoubtedly the part of the day which is so full of emotion. It is just as significant as the wedding vows.
Number 3 – You would have gone through so much to get to your wedding day. i.e. the long hard struggle of finding the man of your dreams. For some it may mean moving out of your parental home where you probably spent your entire life. To your parents it means handing over your protection to their new son-in-law. A new chapter in your life awaits and small parts of your old life close. It’s a time when words cannot express the multitude of feelings that the vidai invokes. Allow your guests to have this time to express their feelings, whether it is in the form of tears or hugs or blessings…do make time for this. It connects everyone.
Number 4 – Do not stress – It all comes together in the end 🙂
