Hello there Desi Brides!
Woaaaaah I can’t believe we are into February already! January has been very hectic for me to say the least. The month started off with a wedding at the prestigious Connaught Hotel in Mayfair, London. Here’s a sneek peek – professional images to follow!
I have been busy planning away for those Desi Brides that have booked me as their wedding planner/wedding coordinator for this year and 2017. January also meant turning 30 for me! Yes I can’t quite believe it myself – I am 3-0! Goals and objectives have been set and I am so pleased to say that there are some very big things in store for Desi Bride Dreams this year! I’ll talk about that in another post but today I wanted to talk to you about the amazing Ravita Pannu – #RP for short!
This blog post has been a long time coming. I haven’t blogged as much recently because I have been so busy with wedding planning for lovely Desi Brides but this is all set to change this month! Watch out Desi Brides because the blog will be having lots of blog posts over the coming weeks! See there I go again – off on a tangent!
Anyway so yes I was saying – Ravita Pannu. This blog post is about my brutally honest experience with Ravita. I shall call it the Ravita Pannu review. Its a long story so sit down with a cup of garam chai!
I first met Ravita back in March 2014 (wow nearly two years ago). I saw her stand at the Asian Bride Live show in Birmingham and I was instantly drawn in by the creativity of the stand. It was retro/funky/vintage all rolled into one. In one word it was AMAZING and so different to the other stands I had seen at the show. If you Desi Brides know me well you know that I am all things creative, funky and unique. I hate being boring and I am always thinking out of the box – so when I saw the RP stand I knew she was something different.
I quickly hurried along to her stand with my bridesmaid and we put our name down so we could get emailed all of the info about her bridal packages.
The next day was a Monday – I was so surprised to see a very detailed email from RP breaking down all of her services. Woah talk about amazing follow up and customer service (a real rarity in the Asian wedding industry sometimes as you probably know) I was really really impressed so I thought I am definitely going to book a trial with her.
This was all was happening in the midst of my trial saga – I will talk about this in a different blog post but the jist of the story is I was either looking like a drag queen after coming back from my trials or I had been let down on the day (YES ON THE DAY) by a MUA who had double booked my trial. To say this process was stressful and annoying would be a understatement so RP’s efficient service was a breath of fresh air!
I had my trial the very same week – I took my mum along with me this time to get her honest opinion. Again I was impressed by Ravita’s vintage retro studio and my trial went really well! I looked so glam and I felt really comfortable with all of the make up that was used. I even went home and my brother and dad said I looked really pretty – hahaha (they never notice these things). My mum also loved it as well and the next day I had booked RP for my wedding! Whoop Whoop!
The Perfectionist and organised soul I am I always did worry a little about how I would look on the day of my wedding (probably because I had such bad experiences with other MUA’s) but RP reassured me that as a creative artist she could create any look I wanted!
When I went to RP for my trial I hadn’t started my wedding blog Desi Bride Dreams . Of course as a new Asian wedding blogger and a new person to this crazy cut throat bitchy industry any person needs moral support right? I sent a email to perhaps 30 different key industry contacts letting them know about my asian wedding blog launch, and you know what – no one replied – except for Ravita Pannu. I’m not ashamed to admit this now because my blog attracts thousands of readers and brides a month and I have been on the likes of BBC Asian Network and Desi Bride Dreams is going places, but back then I was a newbie with no support. It was so comforting and encouraging to see that such a successful busy entrepreneur such as RP was supporting my new labour of love – thank you RP! And you know what I don’t think she supported me because I was RP bride, I seriously and honestly think she supported me because she backs and supports new and creative talent and she is genuinely a lovely person.
My blog was doing well once it launched and one of my make-up blog posts had gone viral and been shared about 50 times on social media (crazy I know) and over 50,000 people had seen it, but I wanted to take it to the next level.
Still being a newbie I was scared but I bit the bullet and approached Ravita to do a video blog and I was convinced she might say no as her schedule is so busy but low and behold she said yes! We then did an amazing video blog in collaboration with Jashn Films and it was instant hit!
Soon it was my final trial and once again it went amazingly well – I was so so pleased! My lehenga was different and unique so RP was easily able to see how I could make my look unique and have the colours of my outfit reflected in my make up.
On the day RP did a fantastic job on my make up and hair. Hand on heart I can say that when I looked in the mirror I felt like a million dollars and my guests commented saying that I looked like a model out of Asiana (I’m definitely no model but thank you guests). Yes the morning was a little stressful in my house – buts its a Punjabi wedding right? The main thing was that I looked beautiful and my baraat was on time! Some key things I would like to point out is listed below:
Every brides worst nightmare – the lehenga falling off! I will write about how I dealt with this another a blog post but what I can say is the moment RP tied my lehenga I knew it wasn’t going anywhere! She had tightly fastened it and I felt 100% safe in it and I knew it wouldn’t ever “fall” Thank you RP for giving me that confidence and safety, and by the way no safety pin was even used!
As a Punjabi/Sikh bride you all know that all the aunty ji’s want to give you sagan and pyaar and the way to show their love is always putting their hand on your bridal bun – yeah about that – my hair did not move one inch all day. My hair is very curly and frizzy and it stayed put all day so I was pleased.
Other than the lipstick I hardly touched up my make up – it literally stayed all day! I sometimes have the issue of my eye make up running but this didn’t happen on the day at all and my eyelashes stayed intact even after the emotional doli!
Here are some shots of my make up 🙂

Once I had been RP’d my journey did not end there.
Last year in September after popular demand I finally launched my wedding planning and on the day coordination business. RP had actually encouraged me the year before to do this and she that Asian wedding coordinators were really important for any wedding as they ensure the big day runs smoothly. Once I had launched RP had given me a little prep talk on the phone and advice on moving forward. She also was really supportive in sharing my videos and blog posts and its no surprise that half of my lovely clients this year are also RP brides. You can view my launch video below:
I’m not only writing this blog post from a brides perspective. I am writing it from a entrepreneur and a girl with big dreams perspective. My lovely little wedding planning and coordination business is blooming but I know for a fact that I couldn’t have done it without Ravita Pannu. Her little prep talks, her own incredibly inspirational story of hard work and determination has inspired me so much. She is nothing but a lovely, crazy, hardworking soul and a little outspoken at times!. She comes from a normal working class background and with so many people in the industry she hasn’t had the bank of mummy and daddy to support or even start her biz – very similar to my story.
I know before Christmas there was some negativity around her and her work. I don’t know the details are and I don’t need to know but what I do know is success breeds hate and jealously (its happened to me as well when I launched) but all I will say is this….
I’m so glad our paths crossed and thank you RP for everything you put into this world!
2016 #RP brides you are very lucky to have RP – I have no doubt you will look nothing short of stunning!
