Hello there everyone and happy Monday.
First things first I just wanted to say a mahooosive thank you to everyone who has headed over to the blog since the launch on Thursday. I have had a lot of positive feedback and that makes me a very happy Sharn. It doesn’t stop there. I have sooooooo much planned for the blog so I can’t wait to share it with you. For now it’s all jotted down in my little book for dreams (I have a slight obsession with New York and pretty paper chase stationary).
My dreamy notebook
Oooo and don’t forget to like the facebook page either – it would make me a real happy bunny if you did, here it is – Like now
Soooooo I thought it would be a good time to write a post about where I have got to with the oh so exciting wedding planning.
I’ll give you the low down first. So my Sikh wedding is in May next year which means I have little over 10 months to go, and there is also a chunni and karmai party added into the mix which is in September this year. You could say that the chunni party is a mini wedding ( and a good rehearsal opportunity)
Firstly the chunni. I’m not too stressed/worried about this at all. I have the majority of things booked up like the venue, catering and entertainment.
I just need to give the invites out now (which my lovely bridesmaid Charlotte is hand-making for me, what a beaut) and then just fine tune the little details and I think we are all good to go!
So what’s stressed me out with the chunni? I would say the decor. I didn’t want to spend too much but I still want it to look elegant and classy and the perfectionist I am its been hard trying to find the right balance. Luckily I have negotiated hard but its still a little over budget. Ah well I think, you only do it once eh? So I’m not going to stress about it too much. But I have to remember that this isn’t the wedding, so essentially I can save all the best bits till then. I’ll get into the nitty gritty details of my chunni In September so you have all the deets.
My weight has been stressing me out a little. I’m not huge at all, a size 8 but because I am short *cries*but can I just add that Kim Kardashian is the same height as me (this makes me feel a whole lot better). So any weight gain or loss easily shows, and because recently I was really stressed with my job I was comfort eating a lot and then I went to Las Vegas, ate the whole world AND then it all went to pop. Luckily I have been REALLY focused in the last month exercising most days therefore I can definitely feel a difference. The goal is to get pretty slim by the chunni in September. Fingers crossed it will happen. Actually I’ll make it happen. My ultimate motivation is my size six jeans below which are neatly hung up on my door giving me uber motivation every day. Again I’ll talk about my fitness routine in another post.
Now the all important wedding. Now let me see, where are we? I have been planning it since February and I’ve got into the swing of things. Lots of fun things have happened like the food tasting and the look on my fiancé’s face when he saw the venue for the first time (so much joy). So in terms of booking, I have booked the venue, catering, entertainment (except the DJ) and I also taken care of my jago party too.
I’ve taken some time out now to really focus on the wedding. My greatest fear is that I’ll forget something, something important. This all became very clear when I went to my site visit on Friday. The venue manager was asking me about pint glasses and bar staff. Initially I was like *snore* had I thought of this – NO! Do I need to worry about this – absolutely YES! There are so many nitty gritty little things to remember with Asian weddings but I think I’ll be ok because my mummy Khaira and my other family is all over it, as well as my trusted suppliers. So I guess you could say that the biggies are all booked up.
Catering was quite hard as there is so much choice and I know how important catering is at a Asian wedding so I knew I had to get it right. The pre party venue was a tough one as I always wanted to have it in a hotel but our numbers were too high and nowhere in the little town I live in could cater for my numbers, so I had to sack off the hotel idea and compromised on the guest numbers with my mum after maaanyyyy disagreements. Oooo and yeah my make-up artist is also booked as she was one of the first things I booked as it was a very stressful experience. More on that here
The next big things are photography and decor. I think photography has been really time consuming and tough. Is that just me or has anyone else found this difficult? As you probably guessed I’m very specific and I have found it hard finding someone who fits my vision. I’m all about the detail. There also also mental costs attached. I know a lot of hours and hard work goes into the photography but the costs do sound pretty crazy to me. So I want to find the right balance – a good photographer at the right cost, I def don’t want to be ripped off. It’s on my list for this week so I will be getting this all sorted out very soon and I’ll keep you posted.
Decor is on the hit list to get done this week as well. I want a strong theme (I have no clue what it is yet). I think when I do go to some Asian weddings this does sometimes get lost because of the sheer size of the venue and the guest numbers involved . Therefore I need to go to lots of theming and decor companies and get their input and they should be able to execute my dreamy wedding vision for me. I’m looking forward to this bit the most and its uber exciting.
So that’s where we are in a nutshell. Not too much big stuff to do but there are also lots of little bits which I haven’t mentioned and these are the time consuming ones.
Lots of exciting times ahead and I’m looking forward to sharing the journey with you and hearing about your’s too.
Have a fabulous Monday evening beauts.
